The duties of a hotel manager typically include overseeing operations, leading staff and ensuring guest relations run smoothly.
For Rocky, a manager at the Shangri-La The Shard, London, things are a little different.
Among his key responsibilities are welcoming furry VIPs with tail wags, sniffs, and nose boops, maintaining harmony between dogs, cats and parrots and patrolling the lobby to keep squirrels out.
Rocky is no ordinary manager: he’s a self-professed ‘Yorkshire Terrier by breed, hotelier by calling’.
The ultra-luxe hotel’s pet relations manager, his official title, is just one of the hard-working and utterly adorably pets living inside a top hotel.
The Daily Mail takes an inside look at some of the spots with furry residents, from puppies in London to a trio of tortoises in Mauritius…

Every spring, during his ‘show season,’ he performs the same ritual every morning in exactly the same spot, in front of the Salammbo terrace during breakfast, proudly displaying his feathers for the delight of guests, who enjoy a natural spectacle with their morning coffee.
He is also known for spending hours admiring himself in the mirror of the hotel’s outside barber setup.
Kaleb, Gerald, Charlie, Jeremy and Lisa the sheep at Swinney Wood
The sheep are not just part of the natural area near Swinney Wood in the Peak District – but an attraction for guests, too
Resident sheep are a huge part of the Swinney Wood Log Cabins family, adored by everyone who meets them.
The resort asked guests for help picking names and finally settled on names inspired by Clarkson’s Farm – Kaleb, Gerald, Charlie, and Jeremy, with Lisa joining the flock later on.
Kaleb became especially loved for his calm and gentle soul. When he sadly died, the response from guests was incredibly touching, with many leaving tributes. There is now a memorial plaque beside the field where he spent his days.
The sheep are at the heart of Swinney Wood, bringing an abundance of character, playfulness, gentility, and joy. They have even developed a habit of wedding crashing, bringing smiles to happy couples saying, ‘I do’ there.
Rebecca, director of Swinney Wood Log Cabins, said: ‘It’s all about the love at Swinney Wood, and our sheep certainly love to love.
‘They love saying hello to guests, they love a good head or back scratch, they love a wedding, and they absolutely love a good photo opportunity. Most of all though, they love food – and we love them for bringing so much love to everyone who meets them.’
