The Princess of Wales is well versed in using her wardrobe to send subtle messages, whether on poignant occasions or during international tours.
Stepping out alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla at a cancer charity reception marking the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK held at St James’s Palace, Kate chose a Rodarte dress that appeared to carry significant meaning.
The vintage-inspired design, featuring a fit-and-flare silhouette and contrasting collar, was decorated with delicate white hearts – perhaps a quiet gesture of love and solidarity for those affected by cancer.
The event marked the first time Kate and Charles have appeared together in support of a cause that holds deep personal significance for both of them.
In 2024, they each revealed they had been diagnosed with cancer. While the Princess confirmed she was in remission in 2025, the King is still undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of the disease.
Pasadena-based label Rodarte, founded by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, is a favourite among A-list names including Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Natalie Portman, and beloved for its romantic silhouettes and art-historical influences.
True to her signature style, red remains one of Kate’s most-worn colours, while polka dots are among her favourite prints.
She completed the look with recycled accessories: a Miu Miu clutch, Gianvito Rossi court shoes, a ruby pendant necklace and diamond earrings.
Fans of the dress will be pleased to hear the exact piece is still available – and currently on sale, though sizes are selling fast.
There is also a mini version available, alongside similar styles in navy and brown.
