Lucy Beaumont tells Gaby Roslin she went on Big Breakfast as a child

Comedian Lucy Beaumont joined host Gaby Roslin on Magic FM on Saturday but confessed that she has actually met her once before.

She recalled that as a 10-year-old girl, there was a competition to design the fountain that appeared in the garden of TV show, Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, which Gaby, 61, hosted at the time.

Lucy, now 42, entered and won, but told Gaby that it was her artist mother who had actually come up with the design, telling her daughter not to tell anyone the truth.

The Big Breakfast TV show originally broadcast on Channel 4 from 2021 and 2022. It returned for a brief revival series in 2021 and 2022 and was famously hosted by Denise Van Outen and Johnny Vaughan.

Lucy said to Gaby: ‘Did you know I’ve met you before… Big Breakfast. Do you remember that fountain that you had? It was a kids’ competition to design the fountain.

‘Did you design it?’ Gaby asked.

Giggling nervously, Lucy replied: ‘Well, my mum went to art school. She did it and pretended it was me. And we came on the show. And it was awful.

‘Two weeks before, she said, we’ve won a competition. You’re to keep your mouth shut because we’re going to get a hotel in London.

‘So they unveiled it, they had an unveiling. They had a kids choir singing. They made a really big thing and I was like, I’ve got to tell everyone it was me.

‘And then right at the last minute, she said, I did give her a bit of help.’

Lucy said to Gaby, ‘you came to the green room. Nobody else did. But you came to meet me. You were so lovely with me.’

‘Oh my God,’ Gaby roared.

‘I’ve never forgotten it,’ Lucy added. ‘And for years, if we’ve ever seen you on anything, we always say she is so… we knew how lovely you were.’

Lucy recently revealed she’s become ‘more guarded’ of her relationship with her sound engineer partner, after her split from husband Jon Richardson.

The Celebrity Traitors star announced her divorce from the comedian in April 2024 after nine years of marriage, with the couple insisting they had ‘jointly and amicably’ decided to go their separate ways and divorce.

Since then Lucy has started a romance with sound engineer Martin Wallace, who is said to be a friend of her ex.

The pair also sparked engagement speculation late last year, with sources adding that they have moved in together.

In a new interview, Lucy shared that she was forced to change parts of her stand-up routine after she and Jon split up, as the act gave the illusion that they were still married.

News of the split came as a shock to fans of the couple who had worked together on a number of shows and starred in their own TV comedy Meet the Richardsons.

She told The Times: ‘I had jokes that I kept because they were still funny. There wasn’t loads about the marriage. Now I’m even more guarded about my personal life.’

It comes after sources revealed that Lucy and her new partner were quietly living together, months after engagement whispers swirled around the pair.

She said: 'So they unveiled it, they had an unveiling. They had a kids choir singing. They made a really big thing and I was like, I've got to tell everyone it was me'

Insiders told The Sun the couple are happily living together, saying: ‘Lucy is really happy with Martin. They live a quiet life together when she’s not on TV. They are often spotted grabbing coffee in their local area or going for romantic walks.’

While it is not known when Lucy and Martin first met – he previously worked as a sound engineer on Jon’s stand up special, Jon Richardson Live: Nidiot.

Martin is an experienced sound tech who has worked closely with a range of comedy stars including Rob Beckett and Dara Ó Briain.

Shortly after they announced their amicable break-up, Lucy was spotted out with hunky sound engineer Martin Wallace, who had been friends with her ex Jon, 43. He had worked on Jon’s 2014 stand-up tour.

Lucy and Jon announced in April 2024 that they were set to split after nine years of marriage. The couple – who have an eight-year-old daughter – insisted they had ‘jointly and amicably’ decided to go their separate ways and divorce.

It was later revealed she was dating Martin, six months on from her break up. August then saw the claims that the duo were to wed, after the Daily Mail revealed Lucy had been spotted publicly for the first time wearing a dazzling new engagement ring.
