Floral prints have long been a royal wardrobe staple, worn by members of the Royal Family for everything from casual daytime outings to formal engagements.

In recent years, the timeless motif has been championed by both the Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, each bringing their own signature take to the look.

Kate tends to favour delicate ditsy prints in soft pastel tones, while Sophie often embraces bolder, more striking florals.

Despite their differing styles, both consistently gravitate towards elegant midi and maxi-length silhouettes.

There’s also clear overlap in their designer wardrobes, with both regularly stepping out in pieces from Beulah London, ME+EM and Suzannah London.

Kate is also a fan of Boden, Ghost and Alessandra Rich, while Sophie has recently shown a preference for Aspiga, Penelope Chilvers and Lexy London.

Of course, florals remain a perennial spring/summer favourite – particularly with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show kicking off – but that doesn’t mean they have to feel predictable.

On the latest fashion special of Palace Confidential, royal experts Rebecca English and Claire Cisotti joined Jo Elvin to spotlight the season’s standout high street releases.

Their top picks included fresh, modern takes on florals from Karen Millen and Jigsaw, from soft ombré blooms to dramatic oversized prints in flattering shades of olive, navy and blush.

And with the high street awash with options, there’s never been a better time to embrace the trend.

From royal-approved labels including Boden, John Lewis, Rixo and M&S, I’ve rounded up the best pieces to shop now – and they’re anything but ordinary.
