Love Island’s Montana Brown branded ‘privileged’ for school run rant

Love Island star Montana Brown, 30, has attracted criticism for her latest discourse about schools.

The reality star turned influencer told her 589k TikTok followers in a new post that she thinks she is ‘going through a quarter life crisis’ because she’s ‘petrified’ of being tied to school drop offs.

Filming from her car, Montana, who has two children Jude, two, and Miley, 16 months, said that she would not be sending her eldest son to a nursery setting and was growing more ‘panicked’ about the idea of sending him to school.

‘I don’t know if any other parents can relate to this,’ she began her video. ‘I mean I say parents but I’m going to target this at mothers because I feel like this is a mother’s issue.

‘People keep asking me “oh why don’t you have Jude in school”. I am petrified of him going to school because it means I’m tied to the school run.’

‘And I don’t know why but I’m having like a freak out. I feel like I’m questioning everything and I feel really unsettled at the minute because I feel like all my possibilities are coming crumbling down.’

Montana, who was a student studying Economics at Bournemouth University when she applied for Love Island, went on to list all the ‘possibilities’ that she feels she could be missing out on.

‘I’m like what if I want to study something. What if I want to become a doctor or something? What if I want to travel South America?’

‘All my possibilities are gone and I know that they’re not gone and I can still do those things but it feels like I can’t because, quite frankly, my kids need me.’

Montana went on to admit she was feeling ‘really panicked’ and ‘claustrophobic’ at the thought of putting her children in school in the future before asking her followers for advice.

‘I don’t know if anyone else can relate to this or if I sound clinically insane but I just feel really young, and I’ve got two children and I’ve got dependables,’ she explained.

Montana’s video was met with criticism though as many pointed out that ‘most people think about this before having kids.’

‘I don’t think you’re clinically insane, I think you’re privileged,’ wrote another. ‘Most of us mothers are studying/working whilst our children are at school? Did you not consider the school run when having a baby?’

‘You can’t deny your child an experience at school because you want to pursue your dreams. You can still have time for yourself, career etc, but yes, being a parent has to fit around them and their needs. Once they are older you can really go for it.

‘If your biggest concern in life is not being able to go on holiday to South America, then you have ZERO problems. Genuinely you’ve won the game – congrats’ posted another.

Another quipped: ‘Is your attachment style avoidant?’

Montana is known for sharing her vocal views on parenting, including her ban on screen time for her kids and her public criticism of school meals.

The Love Island star, who shot to fame on the show in 2017, recently blasted schools for serving desserts with school lunches and alleged children were also given biscuits at break time, thus normalising the exposure to ‘addictive’ sugar and ultra processed foods.

The reaction was furious with followers claiming she is ‘demonising’ sugar while many others flagged that for children living in poverty the food could be their ‘only hot meal of the day’.

After the school dinners rant Montana shared another TikTok saying she was ‘shocked’ by the response.

‘I think if you know me, you know that I care very deeply about lots of different issues and children’s nutrition is a big one of those,’ she told her followers.

Discussing her experience, she continued: ‘When we decided to look round schools for Jude we generally found that we were disappointed with some of the habits that included giving kids sugar during the school day.

‘So that was me sharing that on our experience on the schools we looked at in our area, I was not talking about schools in general and I wasn’t talking about schools your kids go to. I’m always talking about my experiences.’

She concluded: ‘It wasn’t meant to offend anybody.

‘I constantly try and share issues that I really truly care about and I genuinely care about children’s nutrition, the same way I talk about women’s issues, trans issues, all because I genuinely really care about them.’
