Benedict Cumberbatch is branded a ‘deluded liar’ in blazing row

Benedict Cumberbatch had a furious, ten minute row with a fellow cyclist on Tuesday.

The Sherlock star, 49, was confronted by another cyclist after he allegedly ran a red light in London.

Video shows a man in red trousers call the actor ‘deluded’ and shout ‘you’re lying’ during the heated exchange.

Benedict stands his ground, and accuses the masked fellow biker of ‘verbally abusing’ him during the argument, which was watched by shocked fans.

An onlooker who watched the drama unfold at 5.30pm on Tuesday said before the row began, he saw the actor’s cargo bike ‘running a red light’ in the cycle lane with another cyclist in hot pursuit.

A video shows Benedict leaving his bike and walking across the road to confront the other cyclist, and the pair immediately get into a heated exchange.

The other cyclist can be seen shouting, ‘you’re deluded, you’re lying. I was behind you the entire time’, before Benedict responds with, ‘dude, you verbally abused me’.

The other cyclist responds with a seemingly sarcastic crying gesture and says, ‘Oh no, I verbally abused the guy who completely repeatedly broke the law,’ with Benedict admitting, ‘I did it once’.

The accuser continues saying, ‘and then you went through a zebra crossing, you went through three lights’, with the actor insisting, ‘no, I did not’.

The altercation lasted ten minutes before the masked man left and Benedict posed with two young fans for a selfie, said a witness.

The fan, who filmed the confrontation, said: ‘It was crazy. It was such a pompous road rage it almost felt like it had been staged. He was calling Benedict “deluded” and “a liar”.

‘Benedict still managed to charm everyone watching even though he was having a meltdown. They went at each other about five times.

‘It was really busy, and they blocked the lane so no one else could get through.

‘The masked guy was obviously some kind of vigilante – he was really taken aback when he saw it was Benedict Cumberbatch, but he doubled down on his rage.

‘Everyone was just stood there with jaws dropped.’

The witness added that a group of school kids watching ‘asked “is that Doctor Strange?” and asked for a picture with him’.

‘Benedict said “not at the moment, in a minute”; he was lovely with them, they were awe-struck.

‘I don’t condone dangerous driving, but for this guy to follow him and cause an incident like this was worse than Benedict slowly cutting that light.’

In 2019 Benedict had another run with a cyclist, and was reportedly slapped by the furious man after his car knocked him off his bike on a country lane.

The actor allegedly caught the arm of the rider during the collision which took place in Freshwater, Isle Of Wight.

The cyclist is said to have got up off the floor and immediately slapped Benedict- before realising he was an A-list star.

A friend of the cyclist said that it was ‘lucky’ Benedict, was not punched, describing him as ‘no shrinking violet’.

Despite the initial heated encounter, the Doctor Strange actor offered the cyclist clothing and bottled water to clean up the blood before offering him a lift to the nearest medical centre.

Benedict is thought to have reported the incident to police on the island but didn’t press charges over the slap.
