Kate wears £460 Self-Portrait dress at Buckingham Palace garden party

The Princess of Wales was the image of elegance in a white £460 dress from one of her favourite brands, Self Portrait, as she hosted a garden party with her husband.

Kate, 44, stunned in the ivory ensemble, adorned with black polka dots, as she joined William for the festivities commemorating Britain’s frontline workers at Buckingham Palace this afternoon.

The outfit, which featured a structured blazer-style bodice with buttons and a belt, fanned out into a flowy satin skirt.

Adding a romantic touch, a flower pin decorated the lapels. To accessorise, the future Queen carried a woven clutch from Australian brand Forever New, and wore her Ralph Lauren Celia heels.

Shielding away from the sun, the Princess was glamorous in a vintage Mitzi Lorenz hat, while her jewellery paid a touching tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Kate donned the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings, a treasured royal heirloom which was made from pearls gifted to Elizabeth II by the Hakim of Bahrain for her wedding to Prince Philip. The earrings became a favourite in the early years of her marriage.

The late Queen later loaned them to Princess Diana and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. However, since Remembrance Sunday in 2016, Kate has worn them exclusively.

The Princess of Wales opted for a smokey eyeshadow look and pinned her hair into a half updo, smiling as she chatted with attendees.

William and Kate stepped out for today’s event on behalf of King Charles, to celebrate workers from across the frontline sectors, including emergency services, volunteers and charity workers.

The King and Queen held a similar event earlier this week, and were joined by The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Looking dapper next to his wife, Prince William opted for a formal suit, blue waistcoat and red tie.

Meanwhile, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh – who was glamorous in a baby blue ensemble – were also in attendance.

And Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter, was effortlessly sophisticated in a cerulean frock and statement hat.

Every summer, the King and Royal Family host a series of garden parties in London, and one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland.

Historically they served as presentation parties for the debutantes of high society, but now recognise and reward public service instead.

The party begins with the national anthem, before members of the royal family take to the lawns and greet guests.

Today marks the second garden party of the year, with a third event at the palace to take place on Tuesday, May 12.

On Friday, William and Kate met guests from a number of both their patronages, military affiliations and passion projects, including William’s Homewards campaign to end homelessness across Duchy of Cornwall sites.

The couple had also asked for invitations to be sent to Rhian Mannings, who the Prince met last year.

Rhian tragically lost her young son to a hidden illness and subsequently her husband to suicide, and went on to found 2wish to support bereaved families.

Also invited was Sam Stables, founder of We Are Farming Minds who works to break down the stigma surrounding mental health in the farming community.

The Three Flying Fish – Rowan, Anna and Harry – a team of three young Air Cadets who became the youngest trio to tackle the 3,000-mile ‘World’s Toughest Row’ in January, were also honoured with invitations.
