Andrew ‘wants taxpayer-funded security’ after being ‘threatened’,

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor wants his taxpayer-funded security reinstated after an incident in which he was threatened near his home by a ‘balaclava-clad man’.

The former Duke of York was approached by a man, said to be in possession of a crowbar, while he was out walking his dogs near his home on the Sandringham estate on Wednesday evening.

The man is said to have confronted Andrew, 66, close to his home at Marsh Farm on the King’s Norfolk estate.

Police were called to the scene and the former prince, although unhurt, was said to have been left shaken by the incident.

His private security provision was removed by King Charles in 2024 over his links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, before he was stripped of his titles late last year and kicked out of his former home, Royal Lodge, in Windsor.

Last night, Norfolk Constabulary said a 39-year-old man has been charged with two counts of harassment following an incident in Wolferton.

Police officers were called to reports of a man behaving ‘in an intimidating manner in the village’ shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Alex Jenkinson was questioned at King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre after being arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

Jenkinson has since been charged with two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to harass someone or cause alarm or distress.

He also faces another charge of failing to provide a specimen of blood in custody.

Jenkinson, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Following the incident, a source close to Andrew told the Telegraph: ‘Even though Andrew is no longer a working member of the Royal family, the threat to his personal safety is greater than ever.

‘In fact, it could be argued that he is actually more at risk, not only from a potential terror attack but also from individuals who have become fixated due to all of the coverage he has attracted over recent years.

‘This incident clearly demonstrates why his security provisions need to be appropriate for someone with such a high profile. There should be a review, which gives proper consideration to Andrew in the light of what has happened.’

A Norfolk Constabulary spokesman said: ‘A man has been charged following an incident in Wolferton.

‘Officers were called shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2026) following a report a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village.

‘Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
