Blue Ivy told off by dad Jay Z for refusing to take off her sunglasses

Blue Ivy made her Met Gala debut on Monday, and at the age of 14 stole the show with her Balenciaga gown and her defiant refusal to remove her sunglasses.

Beyonce and Jay Z’s eldest daughter posed solo and with her famous parents on The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famous blue carpet, teaming her bubble-hemmed white gown with a pair of shades.

But the sunglasses proved to be a sticking point for the teenager’s dad as video shows the moment Blue refused to remove her shades despite frantic instructions from assistants and her father.

The clip shows Blue posing with her mom before Beyonce’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure rushes over, gesturing for the teen to take off her shades.

The family’s long-time publicist is then seen asking Beyonce to tell her daughter, before stylist Ty Hunter and eventually Jay steps in.

A defiant Blue though waves off the instructions and seems to suggest she will remove them only when she reaches the top of the stairs.

Fans were left in hysterics by the viral clip, with one declaring: ‘She is Beyoncé’s daughter… she answers to nobody that’s what that energy was… & rightfully so!’

Another added: ‘Blue is the manager and she brought 2 A-List clients.’

Beyonce co-chaired the event alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour.

Nepo babies proved the power of their starry status once again as both Nicole Kidman and Beyonce flouted the Met Gala age restrictions so their daughters Sunday Rose and Blue Ivy could appear at the event.

While stars including Jaden and Willow Smith, Elle Fanning and Hailee Steinfeld previously attended the ceremony as teens, in 2018 Anna Wintour, the Met Gala chair, prohibited under 18s from attending after several younger stars were turned away.

Dance Moms alum Maddie Ziegler publicised the rule when she told reporters she was unable to attend as she was too young.

Organisers then told The Hollywood Reporter that ‘it’s not an appropriate event for people under 18’ and that the decision was made by Vogue.

However, after almost a decade it appears an exception to the rule was made on Monday night as Sunday Rose, 17, and Blue Ivy, 14, joined their famous mums on the red carpet.

It seems to be no coincidence that both Nicole and Beyonce were co-chairs at this year’s Met and were able to sway Anna’s decision as both their daughters are already carving out a successful career in the spotlight.
