It is the first Monday in May – and that meant it was fashion’s biggest night of the year.
But the event, usually known for its star-studded glitz and glamour, ended with some seriously memorable fashion fails tonight as A–list stars descended upon the red carpet ahead of the gala.
This year’s dress code, Fashion is Art, served as a more specific baseline for guests against the gala’s overall theme of Costume Art.
Instead, stars attended the monumental fashion event in a slew of sartorial nightmares and over–the–top outfits, with some, such as Sarah Paulson, even trying to make their looks a statement in social commentary.

Not her best Met look! Kylie Jenner stepped out in an intricate Schiaparelli gown, with a nude, curve-hugging corset top and a half-tied, cream colored, bejeweled satin skirt. The back of the dress featured an undone look, and she paired it with a dramatic hairstyle, leaving just one strand around her eyes, chunky pearl earrings and a matching necklace
Here comes the AI bride? Katy Perry completely covered her face in a robot-esque silver mask, pairing it with a strapless, white silky gown with an exaggerated square neckline. She finished off the look with a pair of white satin opera gloves
Looking like a quill pen! Musician Sam Smith wore a black bedazzled outfit that featured an oversized, dramatic cape top lined with fur and a mermaid-style, bottom-hugging hem. They paired the look with a large matching headpiece that included two extremely tall black feathers

Poor color choice! Vogue’s new head of editorial content, Chloe Malle, wore a Creamsicle-orange chiffon dress custom-made for her by New York designer Colleen Allen that fell short of the theme. Tassels gone wrong! Emma Chamberlain wore a very dramatic, over-the-top Mugler gown that resembled paint and brushstrokes on the body and into the ruffled hem.
