Influencer charged after ‘headbutting homelessness charity worker’

An influencer has been charged after allegedly headbutting a charity worker who refused to let him film himself handing food to the homeless.

The incident, which happened at Homeless Project Scotland’s Glassford Street shelter on Thursday just after 11pm, saw an influencer allegedly turn violent after his request for a photo opportunity was refused.

The charity reported that a man headbutted a worker after volunteers refused to film him for publicity and then had to wait 30 minutes for the police to help while vulnerable guests had to wait outside.

A 49-year-old man was arrested at the scene at 11.38pm and then charged in connection to the alleged incident. He will appear in court at a later date.

Homeless Project Scotland said in a statement: ‘Tonight, a guest from House Of Gods Hotel forced his way into our shelter demanding we film him handing out food for publicity.

‘Our volunteers refused and asked him to leave. He became aggressive, saying he was a marine and issued threats, then violently assaulted a volunteer head butting and punching them.

‘Despite calling 999, Greater Glasgow took over 30 minutes to attend while our volunteers were left trying to defend themselves and protect vulnerable guests, who were forced to wait outside in fear.

‘Even more concerning hotel staff attended and asked if their guest could return, despite the assault. This is completely unacceptable.

‘Officers were dispatched at 11.15pm and a 49-year-old man was arrested at scene at 11.38pm. He has subsequently been charged in connection.

‘He will appear in court at a later date. Officers were responding to a high volume of calls in Glasgow City Centre at the time of the incident.

It is not known who the 49-year-old influencer is, but it is understood that he was staying at the House of Gods Hotel in Glasgow, where rooms start from about £150 per night.

The charity claimed that House of Gods hotel staff attended the scene and asked their guest to return.
