Mohamed Salah reveals secret talks with Steven Gerrard

Mohamed Salah says he is at peace with his decision to leave Liverpool and insists he ‘didn’t become old overnight’ so still has a lot to give.

The Egyptian legend will depart the Reds at the end of this season after nine glorious years that have seen him break multiple records and win every trophy available – plus a list of individual gongs.

And with fellow Anfield great Steven Gerrard in a touching TNT Sport interview, Salah has opened up on his body, leaving Liverpool and when he may return from a minor hamstring injury.

‘I feel good, body wise I feel all right,’ said Salah, 33. ‘I didn’t become old overnight.

‘Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give and I will see what is the best for me.

‘To go through the season, I feel like this is the right thing to do now and I have peace with it. The season was tough for all of us. I don’t want to say much.’

The Reds forward has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season

Gerrard went to Salah’s house in January and gave him advice to leave the club on his own terms, which the forward has now done having struck an agreement to depart on a free transfer.

Salah added: ‘People didn’t know you came to my house, we had a good conversation. You said your opinion and I really appreciate it. I am glad I am leaving now through the big door.

‘That is something you mentioned to me, just leave on your terms, I still remember those words. I am happy about it. Everything that is going on this season makes me think, “No it’s time to go”.’

Salah limped off with a hamstring injury in the win over Crystal Palace last Saturday but is hopeful of being fit for at least one final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

He said: ‘Honestly physically I feel I have a lot to give. I played many games this season. I haven’t decided what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of good options. Physically I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off, I feel good.

‘I will see what is best for me. For sure, the injury is fine. I will hopefully be back (before Brentford).’
