Emirates reveals plans for world’s first en-suite bathrooms on planes

Emirates reveals plans for world’s first en-suite bathrooms on planes,

Major airline Emirates has shared plans to introduce private bathrooms on board its aircraft – the first in the world to do so.

The UAE’s national carrier is already known for luxurious interiors and immaculate service, with private cabins and high-end on board dining – but is about to kick things up a notch.

Not just any kind of bathroom will be added, though.

The president of the airline, Tim Clark, said: ‘I’m working on en-suite bathrooms in first-class suites.

‘I want everyone to hear that so everyone rushes out the door to find out how they can get bathrooms in first-class suites.’

Speaking via video at the 2026 Capa Airline Leader Summit in Berlin last week, he shared his plans for the latest upgrade to the aircraft.

With Emirates, first-class cabins are available on board A380 or Boeing 777 jets.

The news was revealed by The National, which added that no commercial airline currently provides private en-suite bathrooms for all passengers travelling in first class.

It comes after last year – for the second year running – Emirates won best international airline.

It’s no surprise, given the popularity of the carrier and its reputation for luxury, elegance and high-quality service.

The airline was given the accolade in Forbes Travel Guide’s second annual Verified Air Travel Awards.

Emirates picked up other awards too – such as Emirates first class on the Boeing 777-300ER as best international first class.

Currently, on board Emirates in first class you can access fine dining at any time, an onboard shower spa and the lounge bar.

On Boeing 777 jets, you also get ‘your own private hotel room in the sky’, the airline describes.

Seats have technology such as temperature controls and mood lighting, as well as soft leather seating.

Passengers can also indulge in unlimited caviar, paired with Dom Perignon vintage champagne.

While it’s the first airline to launch private en-suite bathrooms, there are plenty of other luxurious upgrades that have taken place on airlines in recent times.

Etihad’s The Residence features a private lounge, an ensuite shower and toilet, and a separate bedroom with a double bed.

Plus, last year United Airlines introduced Polaris Studio suites – 25 per cent larger than its previous business class seats.

Flyers get luxury perks like Ossetra caviar, Champagne Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé, regionally inspired tapas, plasma face masks, and designer hoodie pajamas.

And Air New Zealand is about to offer economy class passengers access to bunk beds on board certain routes.

Emirates, already known as one of the world’s most luxurious – and best – airlines, is set to get an upgrade that will take its first-class cabins to new heights.
