Woman’s dead body found on Carnival Cruise deck

A woman’s body was found dead on a lower deck of a Carnival Cruise ship after falling from her bedroom balcony.

The woman, who has not been identified, was found on the morning of April 27 on the Carnival Firenze vessel.

The ship was near Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles, California when her body was discovered, officials said.

Cruise staff were reportedly alerted to the woman’s body by her devastated family members, who said she plummeted from an upper level.

In a statement, Carnival Cruises said it was cooperating with law enforcement, and said ‘all appropriate authorities have been alerted.’

‘As is customary, law enforcement will board the ship today on Catalina Island to conduct the required investigation,’ the company said.

‘Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one.’

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told People that the investigation was being handled by the FBI.

The tragedy marks the second incident on a cruise off the coast of the United States in as many days.

On Sunday, a crewmember fell overboard from a Norwegian Breakaway cruise liner near Cape Cod, Massachusetts, sparking a massive search-and-rescue effort from authorities.

The worker, who has not been identified, fell from the side of the ship during rough waters, officials said.

Five days prior, a two-year-old also suffered injuries after falling several meters on a cruise ship in Madeira.

The toddler, whose nationality has not been disclosed but who has been described locally as a ‘foreign national’, was stabilized at the scene before being rushed to hospital.

The incident on the cruise liner near California comes after several similar events in the past week, including a two-year-old child suffering 'very serious' injuries after falling down a ship near Madeira (pictured)

Portuguese press said the youngster suffered a fall of between 10 and 13 feet, causing the child to suffer ‘very serious’ injuries.

The boy’s fall took place on board the Mein Schiff 7, a Malta-flagged ship which was built in 2024 and carries nearly 3,000 passengers.
