Key Liverpool coach targeted by Dutch giants

Arne Slot’s backroom team could be set for another shake-up this summer with his former club Feyenoord plotting a move to hire his backroom staff member Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The current assistant coach, third in command to Slot and his right-hand man Sipke Hulshoff, has emerged as a strong candidate at the Rotterdam club.

It would likely be in a technical director role, with Slot’s former employers set for mass changes themselves with CEO Dennis te Kloese leaving and others, like advisor Dick Advocaat, also in a state of flux.

Rotterdam-born Van Bronckhorst would listen to offers from the club he served as both player and manager.

The ex-Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder, who has 106 Netherlands caps, moved to Anfield last summer to replace John Heitinga who has since been sacked as Ajax manager and had a whirlwind month with Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

Alongside a previous stint at Feyenoord, he has also served as manager at Guangzhou R&F (now City), Rangers, and Besiktas.

Liverpool are yet to receive any official approaches for Van Bronckhorst. Like Slot, he has one more year remaining on his Anfield deal.

The Reds are likely to keep the faith in Slot despite a tricky campaign but plenty of change is expected this summer with key men Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson to depart.

Salah injured his hamstring in Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace and it remains doubtful whether the forward will play for the club again.

The forward will also have one eye on what is possibly his final World Cup for Egypt which starts just weeks after the season finale.
