Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt at Devil Wears Prada 2 gala reception

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada descended on London on Wednesday evening for the star-studded European premiere for the hotly-anticipated sequel.

Following hitting the red carpet in Leicester Square, the stars made a quick glamorous outfit change before arriving at The National Gallery for the ‘A Night With Runway’ gala reception.

Leading the stars were leading ladies Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, who couldn’t contain their laughter as they posed with Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci.

The stars of the film were spotted laughing and chatting away before posing up a storm in front of the iconic London backdrop.

Anne commanded attention in a bold strapless black and silver striped gown which boasted a dramatic ruffled train.

She elevated her frame in a pair of black stilettos and accessorised with a chunky silver necklace and stud earrings.

Styling her dark tresses in a sleek high ponytail, the same as the premiere earlier in the night, Anne flashed her gorgeous smile for cameras.

Emily ditched her vibrant red trouser co-ord for a sexy black sheer minidress and opaque tights.

The actress put on a very leggy display in the long sleeved ensemble and added inches to her frame in a pair of towering heels.

However it was Meryl who stole the show in a dazzling purple sequin jacket as she broke her iconic Miranda Priestly character by flashing a huge smile.

The Mamma Mia star donned a pair of stylish sunglasses and elevated her frame in a pair of black heels.

Meanwhile Stanley ditched his dapper black pinstriped suit for a smart navy blazer and trousers complete with a black tie.

Elsewhere at the gala, Simone Ashley flaunted her jaw-dropping figure in a khaki wrap dress and towering heels.

In the film, Anne reunites with Meryl, Emily and Stanley, as the group dive back into the cutthroat world of high fashion – but this time with a modern twist.

Early plotlines suggest Miranda Priestly is grappling with the decline of traditional print media while facing off against Emily (Blunt), now a powerful executive controlling crucial advertising dollars.

The sequel will also introduce a host of new faces, including Justin Theroux, Kenneth Branagh and Lucy Liu.

Filming has taken place across New York and Milan, with behind-the-scenes glimpses already sending fans into a frenzy.

The original Devil Wears Prada wasn’t just a box office smash – it cemented itself as a cultural touchstone, turning Streep’s Miranda Priestly into an instantly iconic character and inspiring a generation of fashion lovers to whisper ‘That’s all’.

Early reactions for the The Devil Wears Prada 2 have already arrived ahead of its May release, and critics have warned fans to ‘gird your loins… it is phenomenal.’

The movie had its US premiere on Monday and critics who have attended the early screenings have been busy posting their initial thoughts.

Whilst the review embargo doesn’t lift until April 29, some social media reactions have been going viral, with the reactions all overwhelmingly positive.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Alex Weprin shared on X that the movie is ‘a biting media parody wrapped up in high fashion. Every journalist who sees it will cringe from recognition.’

Variety writer Jazz Tangcay agreed, teasing: ‘Gird your loins, the devil is back in all her glory! Yes, #thedevilwearsprada2 is phenomenal. It is the perfect sequel that exceeded all expectations.

‘Aline Brosh McKenna’s script is sharp and witty. We’ll be quoting this for years to come. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are still great. Stunning costumes, and that soundtrack slaps hard. GAGA!!!!!!! Loved it. Worth the wait. That’s all.’

The Movie Podcast’s Daniel Baptista wrote: ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a FUN and FIERCE sequel that makes a statement. Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep slip back into their iconic roles with ease and SERVE in every single frame.’

‘It feels familiar in the best way, timely in the right ways, and is well worth the wait.’

There’s a host of new faces in the sequel. Lady Gaga has a cameo and has also written and recorded the song Runway with rapper Doechii for the film’s soundtrack.

Donatella Versace, Ciara and Ashley Graham also have cameos whilst Justin Theroux plays Emily’s boyfriend Benji, Kenneth Branagh is Miranda’s new husband and Simone Ashley plays Miranda’s current first assistant.

There have been some victims of the edit though as Sydney Sweeney has had her cameo cut.

The actress played herself in a three-minute scene, in which she was styled by Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton.

According to EW, Sydney’s appearance would have come near the beginning of the movie, but was scrapped because it did not work structurally.

Fans first learnt of her involvement with the movie when she was spotted arriving on the New York City set in August.

The plot line for the follow-up to the original 2006 flick reads: ‘As Miranda Priestly nears retirement, she reunites with Andy Sachs to face off against her former assistant turned rival: Emily Charlton.’

Sydney’s removal from the film comes after she became a political lightning rod when her family’s political views came to light.
