Queen Elizabeth II was one of Britain’s most successful and enduring monarchs, remembered not only for her service but also for her unmistakable sense of style.

In her later years, the Queen worked closely with her senior dresser, Angela Kelly, to curate a vibrant wardrobe designed to ensure she was always visible in a crowd.

As she famously remarked: ‘If I wore beige, no one would know who I am.’

To mark the centenary of her birth, royal experts Rebecca English, Daily Mail Royal Editor, Claire Cisotti, Assistant Royal Editor at dailymail.co.uk, and British fashion designer Amanda Wakeley joined Jo Elvin for a special episode of Palace Confidential.

Reflecting on the Queen’s impeccable coat collection, they explore her love of bold colour for official engagements, as well as her more relaxed, country-inspired wardrobe.

With spring in full swing, there’s no better time to take inspiration from the late Queen’s style by injecting colour into your outerwear.

Unlike Catherine, Princess of Wales, who favours colour drenching, the late Queen preferred to let her outfit take centre stage, keeping accessories to a minimum.

She always carried a Launer handbag, usually custom-made in black, and wore corresponding loafers.

With this in mind, explore my high street edit of statement coats and verstatile top-handle bags inspired by the late Queen, below.
