Kate Middleton has officially crowned lilac the colour of the season, stepping out in a stunning bespoke dress by Emilia Wickstead.

The Princess of Wales, alongside Prince William, joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at Buckingham Palace to celebrate British centenarians, as the Royal Family marked what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday.

As ever, Kate delivered a masterclass in diplomatic dressing, choosing a soft lavender hue long favoured by the late monarch.

She completed the look with Queen Elizabeth’s Bahrain pearl drop earrings and three-strand pearl necklace, teamed with her go-to Celia heels by Ralph Lauren.

Her dress featured a demure fit-and-flare silhouette with a full, mid-length skirt that skimmed the shin – elegant, timeless and unmistakably regal.

While Queen Elizabeth was known for her love of bold colour, she had a particular fondness for pastel blues and purples, making Kate’s choice feel especially meaningful.

Unsurprisingly, this fresh, spring-ready shade is everywhere right now, with the high street embracing lilac across the board – from Coast and Karen Millen to Phase Eight and Asos.

Universally flattering and effortlessly polished, it’s a standout choice for any special occasion. Shop my top picks below.
