How can a player who has never appeared in a senior match be worth £43million? Europe’s biggest clubs are ready to find out.

Manchester City and Barcelona have moved ahead in the race to sign Palmeiras sensation Eduardo Conceicao, with both clubs already in advanced talks over a deal that could reach €50million (£43m).

The 16-year-old forward has not yet made a senior appearance for his club but has emerged as one of the most sought-after prospects in world football, attracting widespread interest from across Europe.

Newcastle have had an offer worth £21.5m plus £12.9m in add-ons rejected, as the 12-time Brazilian champions want at least £30m upfront for the latest jewel to come out of their gold mine of an academy.

Several Premier League sides have made enquiries, while Paris Saint-Germain remain in the background, monitoring how negotiations develop before making a potential move.

City and Barcelona have both already discussed potential financial structures and long-term sporting projects with Conceicao’s representatives. The player’s family have travelled to England and France to visit clubs and assess possible destinations.

Eduardo Conceicao is rated at £87million by Palmeiras and has already starred for Brazil's Under 17s

Conceicao scored four minutes into his first South American Under 17s championship game against Bolivia two weeks ago and has been the star of the tournament

In recent years Manchester City and Palmeiras have maintained close relations, particularly through the transfers of Gabriel Jesus in 2017 and Vitor Reis in 2025 for a combined £57m.

Conceicao is represented by DSA Sports, an agency co-owned by Douglas Sousa, father of fellow wonder boy Endrick – who Palmeiras got £60m for in 2024 when he joined Real Madrid on his 18th birthday. Conceicao’s camp are expected to prioritise a club that can accelerate his transition into elite-level football.

While the lack of senior experience might appear alarming for a player valued so highly, it has worked before.

Vinicius Junior agreed his £40m move to Real Madrid just weeks after his first-team debut for Flamengo, while Estevao Willian (another Palmeiras product) cost Chelsea £29m after just 10 Brazilian top-flight appearances.

Palmeiras insiders believe Conceicao could follow the path of Brazil’s top young talents if his development continues at the same pace, highlighting his rapid evolution, particularly his move from out wide into a central attacking midfield position, where the club believe he is best suited.

He is known for his excellent dribbling and has previously played on the left wing before his shift into a central role.

Conceicao is currently in Paraguay, wearing Brazil Under 17s’ No 10 shirt at the South American championship, a tournament that his country have dominated historically, winning 14 of the 20 editions. He struck four minutes into Brazil’s opening game, rising high to beat Bolivia’s goalkeeper to a cross in an eventual 5-0 win, before powering in the third goal in a comprehensive 3-0 demolition of Argentina in the group stage.

Those two goals, coupled with two assists, have helped Brazil reach the semi-finals, where they will face Colombia, and there is an expectation he could travel to Europe to visit interested clubs once the tournament concludes, while a long-awaited Palmeiras debut cannot be far away.

Inside Palmeiras, he is viewed as a unique profile with a different trajectory from recent breakout stars, as the next in line to follow their vaunted ‘Generation of a Billion’.

These were four players they earmarked to earn the club a billion reais (about £155m) – Endrick, Estevao, former West Ham player Luis Guilherme and 19-year-old forward Luighi, who is still at the club.

Palmeiras academy director Joao Paulo Sampaio believes Conceicao can join that group who made the leap to Europe.

‘Endrick and Estevao always had the spotlight from the age of 11,’ said Sampaio. ‘Eduardo is only getting that attention now — and we don’t know where he can go, which is a good doubt.’

Lucas Andrade, who coached Conceicao with Palmeiras Under 20s and is now with Brazil Under 20s, offers further insight.

‘Eduardo has the profile of a ball-carrying attacking midfielder,’ Andrade tells Daily Mail Sport. ‘He can also play as a left-sided winger, but his best performances come through the central corridor, as a No 10.

‘He has strong dribbling characteristics — similar, in today’s game, to Raphinha, and internationally to Ousmane Dembele — players who can break lines both with dribbling and vertical passes.’

Andrade also pointed to Conceicao’s physical readiness as a key factor behind the growing interest from English clubs.

Conceicao (centre), who has as yet only played for Palmeiras' youth teams, is on the brink of finally making his first-team bow - and has been backed to go to the very top

‘I believe he has the characteristics for the Premier League because he is a very physical player,’ says Andrade. ‘Beyond technical quality, that league demands a high physical level, and Eduardo has that, not only in speed but also in contact situations.

‘Despite his age, he already shows strength, which makes a difference in such a competitive and intense environment.

‘He is extremely hardworking, dedicated and humble. At no point has he allowed the praise or the interest from European clubs to change how he sees the world.

‘He enjoys being with friends, playing video games. He is a young player with a very strong character who has remained grounded as his profile has grown.’
