Mark Goldbridge says he won’t be ‘overruled’ by Gary Neville

Mark Goldbridge insists that Gary Neville won’t have ‘control’ over him – despite the Manchester United legend buying his content channels.

The firebrand streamer, known for his outbursts on the Red Devils, insists he will continue to speak out against Neville’s opinions and hasn’t ‘sold his soul’.

Neville’s The Overlap, majority owned by Global, has paid a seven-figure sum for Goldbridge’s The United Stand and That’s Football YouTube channels.

The deal will see Goldbridge continue to front both channels, which have a combined 3.7m subscribers, while what is being described as ‘a significant expansion’ will follow.

The United Stand will be extended to include ‘Stick to United’, which will feature former players and journalists, and ‘The Daily United’, a daily United news strand. Other major clubs across Europe will also be targeted.

And Goldbridge, whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, told viewers: ‘Creative control [remains with] The United Stand. If you want to get proved wrong, keep watching.

Mark Goldbridge insists that he will not surrender 'control' to Gary Neville after their deal

Neville's The Overlap is expanding - by buying up Goldbridge's popular YouTube channels

‘You’re thinking me and Gary haven’t always got on – and we haven’t. I’ve said plenty of things over the years and I’m sure there’s plenty I’ve said that he would disagree with. That’s not going to change.

‘I’ve got creative control and people can’t stop me from doing what I was going to do. I’m not selling my entire business.

‘I will continue to be what I am and The United Stand will continue to be what it is. If something is wrong, I will say it.

‘We’re not going to change. Me and Gary and everybody else we’re going to talk to, we may disagree at times, but what we share is a love for United and a love for football.’

Clips have resurfaced on social media of Goldbridge taking aim at Neville down the years, something which is natural in the opinions-driven online football discussion space.

He once released an almost 11-minute long video titled ‘THE PROBLEM WITH GARY NEVILLE!’

Goldbridge suggested in that stream that Neville was too close to INEOS to criticise them.

Elsewhere, on another stream, he drew a line in the sand between himself and The Overlap by suggesting Neville would ‘fire’ Jamie Carragher for tuning into his streams.

Goldbridge has amassed 3.7million subscribers on YouTube - and now teams up with Neville

Neville once told a fan that Goldbridge would never be invited onto his YouTube channel

‘You’ve got to do what Gary says,’ he said, while doing an impression of the former England defender. ‘That game you used to play as a kid, Simon Says? Change the name to Gary.’

Meanwhile, once asked on X whether he would ever invite Goldbridge onto The Overlap, Neville simply replied: ‘No.’

It’s safe to say that they haven’t always been the best of friends, then, but they are willing to put their differences behind them for this latest project.

Neville, executive director of The Overlap, said: ‘We are building what we believe will become one of the most exciting independent football communities in the world – one that gives fans direct, personality-led content.

‘The United Stand and That’s Football are two of the best-known football channels on YouTube, and our intention is to develop them into the most compelling Manchester United and football news channels in the market.’

Goldbridge added: ‘I’ve spent the last 10 years building The United Stand for Manchester United fans and That’s Football for all fans, and I’m prouder of that than anything I’ve ever done. This deal is about what comes next.

‘The Overlap has the ambition, the credibility, and the resources to help me take what I do to the next level.’

The move comes after Global, one of Europe’s largest commercial radio companies, took a majority stake in The Overlap in January.

Scott Melvin, co-founder and executive director of The Overlap added: ‘The market for independent football content is growing rapidly and the opportunity to build a genuinely scaled network within it is one we have been working towards for some time.

‘The Overlap exists to build the infrastructure, partnerships, and editorial range that allows the best channels to reach their full potential. Mark has built two of the biggest audiences in this space, and this deal accelerates everything we are building towards.’

Last year, Goldbridge’s channels moved further into the mainstream when he landed rights to broadcast matches during the 2025-26 season.

The YouTuber, whose real name is Brent Di Cesare, announced his That’s Football page would stream 20 live Bundesliga matches. The Overlap won similar rights.
