2026 Grand National LIVE: Latest news, runners and updates

Follow Mail Sport’s live blog for the latest updates, full list of runners, odds and results from the world’s most famous steeplechase, the Grand National in Aintree.

Mr Vango also being treated

Like Quai De Bourbon, Mr Vango is being assessed in the stables post-race.

Hopefully, good news soon.

The Grand National’s inner circle

Only seven horses had previously won the Grand National more than once, with Tiger Roll the only runner to have done so this century.

Next up, number three for I Am Maximus?

File photo dated 2/4/1977 of Red Rum galloping into racing history by winning the Grand National for a record third time. Ginger McCain's love affair with Liverpool bloomed again as 16-1 chance Amberleigh House produced a determined run to lift the 600,000 Martell Cognac Grand National in front of a record modern-day crowd of over 70,000 at Aintree Saturday April 3 2004. McCain, who famously sent out Red Rum to win the race three times in the 1970s, became only the second-ever trainer in the history of the contest to secure four victories. JP McManus speaks to ITV

We have a bit to do to catch up to Red Rum, but we’ll definitely try. He’s a figurehead of the Grand National, and it’s nice to be mentioned in the same breath.

It’s just so exciting, and Paul, I’d like to compliment him on the ride. He waited on him, and sure enough, that horse delivered.

Top Of The Bill is up and walking

Promising news from the course, with Top Of The Bill up and walking back to the stables after being assessed on course.

Want to win the Grand National? Ride for JP McManus

The racing titan has the highest number of wins as an owner in the race’s history, with four wins to his name.

The rider of Stellar Story had a nasty fall, and has been taken to hospital. The jockey was conscious and talking, ITV report.

Watch I Am Maximus make history

Jordans thought he had it… until…

Top Of The Bill being assessed on course

Extremely concerning news from one of the fallers, Top Of The Bill, who is being assessed on course.

Quai De Bourbon meanwhile, has walked onto a horse ambulance and will be assessed at the stables.

More information on those jockeys and horses who fell during the race as we have it.

Winning trainer Willie Mullins speaks

He’s had a fantastic race. The most trouble he had were from his stablemates!

Anyone would be emotional. A good call from JP (McManus, the owner), and Paul just executed it so good, didn’t he?

It’s the first race we all watch on television, the one that inspires us when we go into racing. Just to have a runner in it is a sensation.

(I Am Maximus is) just a superstar, nothing fazes him.

He’s quite emotional as he speaks. An overwhelming moment.

Paul Townend, the winning jockey, speaks to ITV Racing

He’s tough isn’t he. I think the cheek pieces definitely helped. He didn’t travel with the enthusiasm of the first year, but the cheek pieces helped me. I wasn’t going to be the one to go chasing (the frontrunners). I didn’t know where that loose horse was going to go.

He’s a really, really good horse. Such an engine. He gallops to the end of the world for you. What a good horse.

A lot of loose horses hampering that final stretch

And throughout too. Extremely challenging for riders and horses alike.

Incredible run from I Am Maximus however. And spare a thought (of jealousy) for that punter who backed him with a £100,000 bet at 8-1.
