Two men have been condemned for a ‘death-defying’ stunt after being filmed clinging to the back of a moving bus to secure a free ride.
The pair were filmed clinging to the red double-decker as it reached speeds of 30mph, only detaching themselves when the Number 114 was forced to halt in traffic.
Upon realising, they were being recorded by a passenger in a trailing vehicle, the duo scrambled to hide their identities.
One shielded his face with his hand while the other pulled up his hood.
The 12-second clip, captured on Mollison Way in Burnt Oak, Edgware, ends shortly after the pair were spotted.
The stunt – known as bus surfing – is often done to avoid paying a bus fare.
An adult pay as you go ticket on Transport for London services is just £1.75 per journey.
One local joked the country’s pothole-ridden roads could have been their downfall.
He said: ‘The lengths people will go to save a tap on the Oyster card.
‘Two guys casually hitching a free ride on the back of the 114 bus.
‘Honestly, the grip strength required to hold on while the bus is moving is impressive.
‘But one pothole and this could have ended terribly.’
Another said: ‘Same guys who will be wearing expensive tracksuits and talk about making and spending a lot of money.’
A third said: ‘£1.75.’
The bus was travelling from Mill Hill to Ruislip on Monday.
Siwan Hayward, TfL’s Director of Security Policing & Enforcement said: ‘We are aware of the incident and will work closely with the Metropolitan Police to assist their investigation.
‘If anyone has any information about this dangerous and reckless behaviour, please contact the police.’
