Zara and Mia Tindall match in sophisticated suits at Aintree

Zara Tindall enjoyed a playful moment with her very animated daughter as they took in the equestrian action at Aintree this afternoon.

The daughter of Princess Anne, 44, jokingly frowned at her mini-me 12-year-old child Mia – while she appeared to lament at the outcome of the races.

Elsewhere, expressive Mia could also be spotted pointing to something on the tracks and passionately speaking about it to her parents.

It was an eventful day for the duo, who donned matching suits for day two of the Grand National.

The King’s niece was sophisticated in a pastel pink blazer with matching trousers and a chic white blouse.

And following in her mother’s example, 12-year-old Mia was smart in a blue pinstripe suit with a trendy high-collared top.

Both held onto golden handbags to up the glamour, and personalised their looks with accessories.

For Zara, it featured a fascinator with a bow and tortoise shell sunnies, while Mia donned a woven headband.

And while the mother-of-three opted for white heels, Mia wore sensible but stylish loafers.

The family – including Mike Tindall – were happy to enjoy a day out at the races once again, after being all smiles at Cheltenham in March.

The ex-rugby player, 47, was dapper in a beige blazer and black trousers as he smiled in photos with his wife and daughter.

The joined a myriad of glamorous racegoers, who after weeks of preening and outfit preparation, amped up the style stakes on Friday as they descended on Aintree for day two of the three-day Grand National Festival.

Pulling out all the stops, revellers put their best fashion foot forward in an effort to take home the coveted best-dressed Ladies Day award.

And racing fans certainly gave judges a tough job as they arrived in a flurry of precarious heels, statement hats and dramatic dresses.

Early arrivals at the racecourse in Merseyside, set the bar high, putting on a glamorous display in figure-hugging lace outfits and colourful fascinators.

More than 150,000 racegoers are expected over the three-day festival, which hosts the showpiece Grand National on Saturday afternoon, when around £250million is expected to be gambled on the race.

Organisers at The Jockey Club said crowds for the first day of racing topped 28,000, up 22 per cent on last year, while more than 45,000 usually descend on Aintree for Ladies Day.

Unlike Royal Ascot, which adopts stricter rules on what to wear, the festival takes a more relaxed approach and tells attendees to simply come ‘dressed to feel your best’.

The Tindalls are known to enjoy a day at the races – and were in high spirits at Cheltenham last month.

On the final Gold Cup Day, former rugby ace Mike was snapped gazing adoringly at his royal wife Zara, who was dressed to impress in a chocolate velvet suit, teamed with a lime silk blouse and a rose-detailed green hat.

Looking equally stylish in a check suit and blue shirt, the sports star appeared reluctant to take his eyes off her as they posed up a storm at the Gloucestershire racecourse.

Adding a touch of glitz to her outfit, Princess Anne’s daughter completed her glamorous look with a set of delicate drop golden earrings.

The royal equestrian and former Olympian kept her makeup to a minimum, allowing her flawless complexion to shine through a sheer layer of foundation while opting for a swipe of pink lipstick.

Mike and Zara, in her role as Cheltenham Racecourse Director, have attended every day of the festival, joining Queen Camilla, the Princess Royal and Kate’s mother Carole Middleton at Ladies Day.

The Princess of Wales’s 71-year-old mother arrived arm-in-arm with Zara, carrying a chic Hermes ostrich skin Birkin bag with an eye-watering price tag of approximately £20,000, and sporting the same £115 Hicks & Brown fedora Kate once wore at Sandringham in 2020.

Although the Princess wasn’t present at Wednesday’s occasion, Carole was still clearly comfortable in the company of her daughter’s in-laws and was even seen throwing her arms around no-nonsense Princess Anne – who is not usually one for public displays of affection.

But Carole’s appearance on Zara’s arm only further highlighted Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie’s apparent exile from royal life amid the ongoing fallout surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The York sisters were once the ones proudly displayed by the King’s niece. Beatrice joined her cousin Zara in 2024, while Eugenie last joined the royal fold at Cheltenham in 2025.
