JD Vance has warned Iran not to try and ‘play us’ as he set off to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran.
The vice president is leading Donald Trump’s delegation to Islamabad for talks with Iran on a possible end to the war in the Middle East.
But he warned his Iranian counterparts against underhand tactics. Speaking shortly before his departure to Pakistan from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Vance said: ‘If they’re gonna try to play us they’re gonna find the negotiating team is not going to be that receptive.
‘The president gave us some pretty clear guidelines.’
The White House has provided scant detail about the format of the talks – whether they will be direct or indirect – and has not provided specific expectations for the meeting.
It comes as the US inflation soared to 3.3% in March, as skyrocketing energy prices hit American bank accounts hard.
The consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.3% year-on-year, compared to 2.4% a month prior.
Gasoline prices surged by 21.2% between February and March, the Bureau of Labour Statistics said.
