This sling garden chair from John Lewis won’t stay in stock for long

If last summer taught us anything, it’s that when John Lewis gets outdoor furniture right, it really gets it right. Case in point: the Marcy range. You might remember the now-iconic white-and-orange striped set that flooded our feeds, promptly sold out, and then became near-impossible to track down. Yes, that one.

Well, consider this your early heads-up: it’s back for the new season – and I’m calling it now, it’s going to disappear just as quickly.

Leading the charge (and firmly earning its hero status) is the Marcy Sling Garden Chair, priced at a surprisingly accessible £149. In a world where outdoor furniture can easily creep into eye-watering territory, this feels like a bit of a steal – especially when you factor in its design credentials and comfort levels.

Let’s talk about that comfort for a second, because it’s a big part of why the collection developed such a cult following in the first place. The chair features an all-weather sling fabric seat and backrest that gently supports your body, plus shower-resistant cushioning that doesn’t panic at the first sign of a British drizzle. There’s even an adjustable seat strap, so you can tweak the recline to your exact lounging preference – whether that’s upright with a coffee or fully leaned back with a spritz.

This season, the update feels fresh but just as covetable. Alongside three new solid colourways – burnt orange, fuchsia and golden olive – you’ll find a trio of chic striped options in navy, green and greige. They manage to hit that sweet spot between playful and polished, making them just as at home on a compact balcony as they are in a sprawling garden setup.

Of course, if you’re the type who likes a cohesive outdoor moment (who isn’t?), you’ll be pleased to know the sling chair doesn’t come alone. There’s a matching two-seater sofa (£279) that mirrors the same laid-back silhouette, plus a coordinating side table (£35) that’s perfect for perching drinks, books or a very aesthetic bowl of olives. Together, they create a set that feels considered without trying too hard.

Another small but genuinely useful detail? Each piece comes with a cushion storage bag, making it that little bit easier to keep everything looking fresh between uses.

But back to the chair – because if you’re going to invest in just one piece, this is it. It’s versatile, stylish, and (crucially) priced in a way that makes upgrading your outdoor space feel entirely doable.

And if last year’s sell-out success is anything to go by, you might not want to wait too long.
