Rodriguez rushed to the hospital following World Cup warm-up vs France

Colombia captain James Rodriguez has spent the past three days in the hospital after showing signs of ‘severe dehydration’ following last week’s clash with France.

Colombia was beaten 3-1 by Les Bleus in Maryland on Sunday in a friendly game ahead of this summer’s World Cup. The temperature at the time of the game was around 26 degrees celsius.

On Thursday, the Colombian Football Federation released a statement revealing the former Real Madrid star had spent 72 hours in a hospital in Minnesota.

The day after the match against France, the player presented symptoms of severe dehydration, which necessitated his hospitalization over the past 72 hours for preventive clinical monitoring and recovery,’ it read.

The 34-year-old, who joined MLS side Minnesota United earlier this year, played just over an hour of Sunday’s game against France in Landover, Maryland.

The Colombian federation confirmed that Rodriguez ‘has been under professional observation due to a medical condition of non-sports-related origin.’

The statement continued: ‘It is important to clarify that this situation is unrelated to any musculoskeletal injuries, nor is it linked to the performance of his footballing activities.’

The federation said that the medical report on Rodriguez currently ‘indicates a favorable prognosis and steady improvement’.

According to reports, the 34-year-old – who also featured in Colombia’s game against Croatia last week – is now back at home recovering from the health scare.

Rodriguez has made more than 100 appearances for his country and is set to captain Colombia at this summer’s World Cup. The South American nation is in Group K, alongside Portugal, DR Congo and Uzbekistan.

‘We wish James a speedy and full recovery,’ the federation’s statement said.
