Martin Lewis has revealed he is stepping back from TV work and taking a social media hiatus – weeks after an explosive outburst on Good Morning Britain which saw him issue an apology.

The Money Saving Expert, 53, took to social media and informed followers that he will be taking a break from both mediums.

Martin wrote on X: ‘And that’s me done. As I’ve no TV show for a few weeks, I’m going to take advantage and put my MoneySavingExpert hat to one side for a little bit and spend some time wearing my far brighter ‘Dad’ hat instead.

‘So I’ll be off social and work for ten days or so.

‘I’d be grateful if, while I’m off here, you report any scam ads using my name or image to the platform (they often increase when I’m not posting).

‘Wishing all celebrating a Happy Easter or Pesach Sameach – and for everyone else, I hope you have a great time too. See you in a week or two. Martin.’

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis revealed he is stepping back - temporarily - from TV and social media
It comes weeks after the money-saving expert made an 'explosive' outburst on Good Morning Britain - for which he later issued a formal apology

Fans soon shared their reactions to Martin’s announcement, as one person commented: ‘Enjoy your family time you deserve it.’

More added: ‘Happy Easter Martin. I hope you enjoy your extended holiday with your family’; ‘Enjoy your well deserved family time Martin & as always, THANK YOU for all of your advice’; ‘Peace and warmth to you and all Martin, enjoy your break.’

In February, Kemi Badenoch was ‘ambushed’ on Good Morning Britain by Martin over her plans to cut student loan repayments for struggling graduates.

The Conservative Party leader was being grilled by host Ed Balls, the former Labour minister, when the consumer champion gatecrashed the conversation.

Mrs Badenoch, 46, told Martin and Ed: ‘If you want us to have a debate I’m very happy for us to have a debate. I think people need to know what it is I am talking about, you’re both talking over me, excuse me, let me explain what my policy is.’

Taking to X later that day, Martin penned an apology: ‘Dear @KemiBadenoch, apologies for gate crashing your @GMB interview today.

‘Student loans are so life impacting that I wanted to ensure the key point was made – that financially, if not psychologically, the repayment threshold is a bigger issue than the interest…

Martin revealed on X that he is temporarily stepping back from social media

‘Thank you for being so courteous after the interruption – you handled it far better than I would have the other way round.

‘I have asked my office, if you are available, to discuss this more calmly.’

Elsewhere, Martin issued a witty response after Alan Carr took aim at him with a rude joke on Last One Laughing UK series two.

The comedy reality TV show, presented by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty, first hit our screens on Prime Video last year.

The synopsis reads: ‘Ten comedians. One rule. Do not laugh. Jimmy Carr has assembled ten of the UK’s funniest people in one room and set them the challenge of making each other laugh, without laughing themselves.’

Speaking to his fellow series two cast members, Alan revealed advice supposedly from the Money Saving Expert.

The comedian said: ‘It’s not who you know, it’s who you blow. Martin Lewis the money man told me that.’

Taking to X, Martin responded by writing: ‘Many people asking me did I see what Alan Carr said about me on Last One Laughing.

‘I have indeed, I love the show. And I did indeed tell him that, it’s what made me the man I am today!’

Clarifying further in the comments section, Martin added: ‘‘For those who don’t know what this is about. Don’t worry.

‘It’s an inside joke (quite literally in some respects) for those who watch it.’
