Oscars blasted for Holocaust joke and ‘painful’ Conan O’Brien skits

Oscars presenter Kumail Nanjiani sparked fury at the Oscars on Sunday with a tasteless joke about Schindler’s List before presenting a tie win for Best Live Action Short Film.

To the dismay of the audience, Nanjiani swapped Schindler’s List for ‘Schindler Post It’ before awarding The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva their statuettes. It is the seventh time in Oscars history that a tie has been won for competing films.

The awards show fell flat with viewers as film enthusiasts claimed the show was a ‘joke’ and criticized Conan O’Brien’s ‘awful’ hosting skills.

In a closing sketch, O’Brien is told he’ll be ‘host for life’ before being bizarrely replaced by Mr. Beast. There were few upsets as winner predictions largely played out as expected.

Jessie Buckley won Best Actress, dedicating the award to the ‘beautiful chaos in a mother’s heart,’ while One Battle After Another disappointed a handful of viewers by taking Best Picture.

Sinners, which led the night with a record-breaking 16 nominations, took home Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his dual role as the Smokestack Twins, beating out a disappointed Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura.

Presenter Kumail Nanjiani makes inappropriate Holocaust joke at Oscars

During the award presentation for Best Live Action Short Film, comedian Kumail Nanjiani cracked an offensive joke by swapping Schindler’s List for ‘Schindler Post It,’ much to the dismay of the Oscars audience and viewers at home.

‘Can’t say that Schindler’s List joke was uh in any good taste,’ one person wrote on X.

‘At the #Oscars, they just made an offensive joke by swapping Schindler’s List for #SchindlerPostIt, and the translator didn’t translate it—she caught on instantly and just went silent during that part. Did you notice it,’ wrote another.

Oscars blasted for ‘boring and predictable’ show

Viewers watching from home blasted this year’s Oscars for being a ‘boring and predictable’ show.

‘This was a boring ceremony overall very predictable and nothing new,’ one person wrote on X.

‘This Oscars is sorta a flop idk. Conan flop, awkward jokes from presenters, ugly a** stage (yeah i said it) only saving this night is a Sinners Best Picture I’m not playing,’ another wrote.

Others ripped the program for running late and cutting acceptance speeches short, while host Conan O’Brien’s skits ran long.

‘The Oscars cutting off that speech for Golden to make room for more overlong presenter bits that land with a thud… booooooo,’ one person wrote.

‘If Conan’s whole awkward opening was cut we wouldn’t be cutting people off,’ wrote a second person.

‘Nooo you don’t get it those very unfunny 10min skits are so much more important we need time for those!’ added a third.

‘The fact one of the intro people had a skit about being played off like a minute later was salt in the wound too. Why is the academy adding categories when they can’t even allow enough time and respect to the pre-existing categories? It makes no sense,’ wrote a fourth.
