Vogue’s newest editor Chloe Malle commits fashion faux pas

Vogue’s newest editor Chloe Malle appeared to make a fashion faux pas as she attended Paris Fashion Week this weekend alongside boss Anna Wintour at the Celine show.

The two were captured together in a video posted to TikTok by a user known as Madame Figaro Paris, as Malle sported a cerulean-blue cardigan, which she paired on top of a light blue dress shirt, gray-and-black striped skirt with a ruffle at the knee, and black loafers.

Malle, 40, wore her hair in a tight bun, as Wintour, 76, stood by her side in a navy blue, leather trench coat and bright red dress.

But as the pair walked together to the fashion show, many viewers couldn’t help but notice that the ensemble sported by the new head of editorial content for US Vogue resembled that of the famously downtrodden Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada.

Of course, the 2006 film is based on assistant Andy Sachs’ (played by Anne Hathaway) experience working at Vogue under a fictional version of Anna Wintour (Meryl Streep).

In one famous scene, Sachs arrives to her first day wearing a blue, cable-knit sweater, which the fictional – and scathing – editor-in-chief insults.

And so it seems that Malle might have taken inspiration from Hathaway’s character, as many social media users couldn’t help but call out the similarities between the Vogue editor’s blue cardigan and Sachs’ sweater, albeit hers was a slightly lighter shade.

Hathaway, who played Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, also wore a similar colored sweater, which fans couldn't help but point out

‘She’s literally dressed as Andy Sachs in that Cerulean Blue SWEATER!!!’ one TikTok user wrote.

Another typed, ‘Okay Andy Sachs… I see you, you done got promoted.’

‘Not the cerulean blue sweater…’ someone else commented.

‘Please send Stanley Tucci immediately, Andy Sachs is in desperate need of a Nigel makeover,’ one person joked, referencing Tucci’s art director character he depicted in the film.

Someone seconded, ‘It’s the outfit Andy Sachs wears when she’s criticized for saying the belts are the same.’

Another simply posted a photo of Hathaway’s character wearing the blue sweater in the movie, which garnered over 2,000 likes.

An additional video posted to TikTok by journalist @mrtinemma even joked that the two were talking about ‘cerulean blue’ as they walked together.

Their joint appearance comes just weeks after the duo went viral for the ‘painfully awkward’ moment that they shared while sitting down together for an interview with New York Times reporter Jessica Testa.

Malle, who is the daughter of Candice Bergen and the late director Louis Malle, was appointed to take Wintour's spot as head of editorial content at Vogue in September

Malle, who is the daughter of Candice Bergen and the late director Louis Malle, was appointed to take Wintour’s spot as head of editorial content at Vogue in September. Wintour still serves as Vogue’s Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director.

The seemingly awkward moment came about as Times interviewer Jessica Testa asked Malle what she would do if Vogue had the same large budget that it once did in the 1990s.

‘I would build a whole new podcast studio, I would pay everyone 30 percent more, I would make sure the social team had more people on it, because they’re working all the time, I would have our app staffed more fully,’ Malle shared.

She added that Vogue has tons of ideas for shoots that would ‘help take people on adventures,’ and that a larger budget would ‘really help’ with that.

However, Wintour didn’t appear thrilled with that answer, as she appeared to give Malle a withering look from behind her large, signature sunglasses.

‘But to be clear, Jessica, we have a very healthy budget at Vogue, and how we use it and use our resources is constantly changing, depending on the moment,’ Wintour chimed in.

Since joining the magazine in 2011, Malle has co-hosted Vogue’s weekly fashion and culture podcast, strengthened its newsletters and expanded its wedding coverage, as well as launching viral hits such as Dogue, a tongue-in-cheek fashion magazine for dogs.

But Malle may face her biggest responsibility of all this coming Spring, as she will take on her first Met Gala in her new role on May 4.

This year’s dress code is ‘fashion is art,’ which will serve as a more specific baseline for guests against the gala’s overall theme of ‘costume art.’

The star-studded guest list includes members of the host committee, such as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Misty Copeland, Lena Dunham, Angela Bassett, Sam Smith, and Chase Sui Wonders.

Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez will serve as honorary co-chairs and sponsors of this year’s event.
