Former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs was pictured in the Salford City dugout during Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury.

Ex-Wales boss Giggs – who also previously had a four-game stint as United’s interim manager in 2014 – is a part-owner of League Two Salford, along with former team-mates David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers, Gary and Phil.

Giggs became Salford’s director of football earlier this year, taking his first job since stepping down from his role with Wales in June 2022.

His departure from the Welsh national team set-up came before he was cleared of allegations he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her sister.

Since his appointment as Salford’s director of football, Giggs has generally kept away from the pitch and spent match days in the stands.

However, Giggs was spotted on the field during the warm-up ahead of Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Fleetwood and then again before Saturday’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury.

Giggs then watched both of those games from the Salford dugout alongside manager Karl Robinson.

According to The Sun, Giggs could be set to get more involved in the playing side.

There is certainly no suggestion that Giggs is planning to come out of retirement and resume his playing career, but the 50-year-old could apparently be set for a more hands-on role.

Salford’s win over Shrewsbury on Saturday came courtesy of two goals from another veteran midfielder as 33-year-old Matty Lund found the net in the fifth minute and then again just before half-time.
