Celtic advance in talks to sign ex-Arsenal star Oxlade-Chamberlain

Celtic are advancing in talks over a deal for former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Daily Mail Sport reported Celtic’s interest in the 32-year-old on Monday, but he also has other options to consider.

The Scottish champions are though, increasingly hopeful of signing the England international as a free agent and he could undergo a medical by the weekend if positive discussions continue.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been training with former club Arsenal since mutually terminating his contract with Turkish side Besiktas in August.

Asked about the possibility of adding Oxlade-Chamberlain, manager Martin O’Neill confirmed talks with the player in his press conference on Tuesday.

‘He has trained at Arsenal for some time since his time in Turkey,’ he said.

‘In terms of fitness, it’s not match fitness, but it’s fine. We’ll see. And listen, he’s got loads of options.

‘I think he was very excited about what we were saying. He knows about the football club.

‘He’s a big friend of Joe Hart and Joe’s spoken to him. Not on our behalf. It was just a conversation with Joe.’
