Winter Olympics star airlifted to hospital after high-speed crash

Winter Olympics star Fredrik Moeller was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a terrifying crash during his preparations for the 2026 Games.

The Norwegian, who is an alpine skier, was left needing emergency medical attention after he lost control at high speed.

Moeller was said to land heavily, with officials and medics rushing to his aid, and the skiing world were left in shock.

A rescue helicopter quickly arrived at the scene and airlifted him to hospital on a stretcher for further checks, with concerned team-mates watching on.

With the alpine skiing event set to get underway on Saturday, it places Moeller’s participation in serious doubt.

Moeller, who competes in the downhill and super-G events, was undergoing an intense training session ahead of the weekend and his crash highlights the risks elite skiers face on the slopes.

A report claimed that the crash happened after his left ski failed during his training run.

He was subsequently thrown off balance and was sent tumbling down the course at considerable speed.

Photos highlighted the seriousness of the crash, with Moeller appearing to hit the barriers at the side of the course.

The skier was seen sitting upright as medics tended to him, before he was taken to hospital.

And following the crash, fans expressed their concern for Moeller on social media, including one who said: ‘I hope this is not serious and the Champ will be back soon.’

Officials said further updates on Moeller’s health would be forthcoming after medical tests, with the Norwegian team yet to comment on his status.

Moeller, who was tipped as one of the favourites for gold at the Games, was previously involved in a serious crash during the World Cup downhill event last year.

His suffered serious injuries, including fracturing three vertebrae but he had recovered ahead of the Olympics.
