Mateta shows frustration over delay to AC Milan move: WINDOW WATCH

The transfer window is open and here are all the developments from Daily Mail Sport’s Simon Jones – including Fulham being rebuffed in an approach for a Newcastle star and Forest agreeing a deal for a goalkeeper.

Will Liverpool sign a defender before the window closes?

Liverpool are exploring a move for Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida.

The 25-year-old can play at right-back and centre back and is known to Liverpool boss Arne Slot from their time together at Feyenoord.

The Netherlands international has been on Liverpool’s radar previously when he was looking for more game time after a frustrating spell with RB Leipzig last season following a £17m move from Feyenoord.

A deal is considered a long shot at this stage because of the timings with the window closing tomorrow, the complication of taking on the loan and Sunderland’s need to find a replacement but talks are ongoing.

Geertruida has played 17 times in the Premier League this season.

The striker posted a frustrated emoji on his Instagram on Saturday evening as he waits for his move to be given the green light.

Palace are still trying to sign Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen. They had agreed a fee of £45m plus £5m in add-ons but the structure of payments caused a sticking point.

Asked if he was confident of adding a signing, manager David Moyes said: ‘Yes I do [think there’s a chance]. But don’t have a big headline saying he thinks it’s coming because it might not and then we disappoint people.’
