The stars are out in full force for Paris Haute Couture week, with Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel Haute Couture debut attracting the likes of Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz and Dua Lipa. However, it was Gracie Abrams who really grabbed our attention, having swapped her signature bob for a shorter, pixie-style cut, featuring choppy layers and plenty of texture.
‘I absolutely love this new look, it’s such a statement haircut and Gracie really stood out on the front row,’ says Andreas Wild, hair stylist at Larry King. ‘I have noticed celebrities going for much shorter hair and more statement haircuts recently, which is great to see. This one brings out her face a lot’.
The question is, can you pull it off if you are not blessed with the face of Gracie Abrams? Yes, says Wild, because the haircut is very adaptable. ‘You can wear it soft or have it even more dramatic than hers. It suits nearly every face shape because you can adjust it with more of a face-framing look if needed, or have it a little bit longer. You could also combine it with a shorter fringe, which is cute and super on-trend.’
To get to the look, Wild advises visiting your hairdresser with a picture and having a proper consultation to see how it could work for your hair and face shape. ‘I would cut this type of style mainly free-hand on dry hair, so you can really play with the length and softness,’ he says. I would recommend a razor cut to get the softer ends, so the hair falls nicely into each other.’
As for styling at home, Wild recommends using mousse or spray to give it a little texture (although you want to avoid going overboard with volume). ‘I would recommend drying with a diffuser and then smooth it out with a flat Mason & Pearson hairbrush,’ he says.
Abrams new look could signal a move towards more showstopper haircuts, suggests Wild – the type that make you ask ‘Where did you get that haircut?’ when you see them. ‘My prediction for 2026 is the return of the statement haircut,’ says Wild. Looks like we’ve already found one of our favourites.
