Chelsea monitor centre back duo: TRANSFER WINDOW WATCH

The transfer window is open and here are today’s latest developments from Daily Mail Sport’s Simon Jones, including the former England striker wanted by Celtic and Everton and Rangers star Tavernier interesting former Liverpool boss. And click here for all of yesterday’s developments…

Opportunistic Liverpool

Liverpool maintain it will be a quiet window for them though they remain alert to opportunities.

Manager Arne Slot, talking about January transfer plans, this morning said: ‘Everyone is aligned about the challenges we are facing. That is not to say we are going to act but everyone is aligned. There is no-one who has a different opinion on it. That is not to say anything is going to happen.’

Harrison set for Fiorentina move

Leeds winger Jack Harrison is expected in Florence for his medical at Fiorentina today.

Fiorentina have agreed a loan deal with Leeds and Harrison is set to join for the rest of the season.

The loan includes an option to buy for around £6m.

Leeds are still weighing up moves for another forward and centre back this window after signing Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton yesterday.

They have checked on Napoli winger Noa Lang’s situation.

Coach Daniel Farke said on Thursday: ‘We missed out in the last days of the summer window on a creative, No 10, wide player. Since then, we have developed a good, capable group and we will only do something with the top characters who improve our squad.’

Malen completes Roma switch

Donyell Malen has completed a move to Roma for a fee of £21.6m.

He will wear the number 14 shirt at Roma, who are currently fifth in Serie A.

The Italian side accelerated their pursuit of the 26-year-old Netherlands forward amid rival interest from Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

Malen signed for Villa from Borussia Dortmund a year ago for an initial fee of £21m and has made 46 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals.

Leeds finally land Buonanotte from Brighton

Leeds United have signed Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton at the second time of asking.

The Argentina midfielder was due to fly to Leeds in August only to make a late U-turn after Chelsea stepped in at the last minute to sign him. However, with his game time limited, Leeds asked again and the 21-year-old has cut short his loan at Chelsea to move to Elland Road on a loan with option to buy.

‘I really wanted to come to Leeds instead of anywhere else. The time was right for me to come here to Leeds,’ he told LUTV.

‘First, I want to help Leeds. I need to do a good job here. And then, of course, if I have a chance to go to the World Cup, obviously I want to go.’

The Cherries hope to progress in talks for Ferencvaros midfielder Alex Toth today.
