Reform membership ‘overtakes Labour for first time’

Reform looks to have become the biggest political party in the UK after an extraordinary plunge in Labour’s membership since the election.

Leaked figures suggest Keir Starmer’s party has lost around 100,000 activists in the wake of his historic win.

Numbers are now believed to be below 250,000 – although the exact details are kept a closely-guarded secret.

Meanwhile, the live ticker on Reform’s website shows it has around 270,000 members.

Nigel Farage said: ‘As we have suspected for some time, Reform has overtaken Labour to become the largest political party in British politics — a huge milestone on our journey to win the next election.

‘The age of two-party politics is dead.’

The apparent nosedive in Labour’s membership is another blow for Sir Keir, as rumours swirl about his future.

There have been growing signs of jockeying in the Cabinet, with some apocalyptic polls showing the party in fourth place for voting intention.

Local elections in May are increasingly seen as a key moment in whether the PM can hang on.

A Labour Party spokesman said: ‘Our membership figures are published in our annual report.

‘We do not give a running a commentary on them throughout the year.’

The last annual report said that as of December 31, 2024 the party’s individual membership stood at 333,235.

At the end of December 2019 – just after Jeremy Corbyn’s disastrous election defeat – there were 532,046 members.

Many unions are also affiliated to Labour, giving their members a link to the party.
