Kelsey Grammer’s daughter Greer Grammer is firing back at claims she’s a nepo baby, revealing she spent most of her childhood estranged from him.
Greer, 33, has been carving out her own Hollywood path with roles in MTV’s Awkward, The Goldbergs, and Netflix’s Deadly Illusions.
She even grew up competing in pageants, winning Miss Teen Malibu in 2008, and later appeared alongside her dad in Season 2 of his Frasier revival.
But she insists her resume has nothing to do with family ties.
In fact, she says those ties barely existed.
‘The biggest misconception about me, and I never know how to talk about it except to just trauma dump, is that I didn’t know my dad until I was 16,’ she explained during a recent appearance on the Pretty Basic podcast.
Kelsey, 70, and Greer’s mom, stylist Barrie Buckner, split shortly after her birth — and that’s when the distance began.
‘My dad left when I was 4, and then I didn’t meet him again until I was 16,’ she said. ‘Technically, I saw him once when I was 11, and I ran. It was in a Blockbuster. I ran away.’
The real reunion didn’t come until a decade later, and it was pure chance.
‘When I was 16, I ran into him at a Christmas tree lot,’ she recalled.
‘And he came up to me and said, “Are you Greer?” And I said, “Yes, I am.” And then he went, “I’m – .” And I was like, “I know who you are. Duh.”’
Kelsey handed her his phone number, and within a week they were having lunch — the beginning of a long-overdue reconnection.
Still, Greer says she has flashes of memory from before he ‘left.’
‘I remember going to Frasier at one point… Then I think my mom took me out because I was loud,’ she said.
She also recalled him attending her preschool production of The Wizard of Oz — a moment they’ve since talked about.
‘Those are all very specific,’ she said of the memories. ‘I can see them when I think about them, but after that, I don’t know.’
Even now, she says she’s still untangling the emotional fallout of their estrangement in therapy.
‘Of course, my therapist was like, “Do you remember when you knew that your dad wasn’t a part of your life anymore? Did your mom ever sit you down?”’ Grammer said.
‘And I was like, “I don’t think so.” She was like, “You should ask her about that.” I was like, “No. I think my brain’s probably blocking it out for a reason.”‘
Since reuniting, father and daughter have been seen out and about together on numerous occasions.
They even shared the spotlight when Greer appeared on the Frasier reboot, playing Alice, the adult daughter of Frasier’s former radio sidekick Roz Doyle, played by Peri Gilpin.
Meanwhile, Kelsey welcomed his eighth child this year with his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh, 46.
The longtime couple, married 14 years, already share three kids – daughter Faith, 13, and sons Kelsey Gabriel, 11, and Auden James, eight.
Grammer first met the British beauty in 2009 while she was working as a flight attendant on one of his London flights.
Kelsey’s fatherhood journey began in 1983 with daughter Spencer, now 42, from his two-year marriage to first wife Doreen Alderman.
He later had two more kids – daughter Mason, 24, and son Jude, 21 – with third wife Camille Meyer during their 13-year marriage, which ended in 2011.
