Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas’ new movie has reportedly been put on hold amid the pair’s recent breakup, despite rehearsals already taking place in London.
Cruise, 63, and de Armas, 37, quietly split several weeks ago after nine months, with fans now denied the opportunity of seeing the former flame’s chemistry onscreen.
Deeper is a supernatural thriller that follows an astronaut exploring the mysterious ocean and would have marked their first time acting opposite each other.
But according to internet personality Daniel Richtman production has now been paused due to US President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariffs on the film industry.
Just last month the Commander In Chief said he would be imposing a 100 per cent tariff on any movie made outside of the United States, including Britain.
Set to be directed by Edge Of Tomorrow’s Doug Liman, the film had already been in production for almost 10 years and was originally set to star Bradley Cooper.
Daily Mail have contacted Cruise and de Armas’ representatives for comment.
The breakup was ‘Ana’s decision’ a source told Us Weekly on Thursday, after she allegedly felt ‘uncomfortable’ with his fast pace.
‘Things were moving fast and she started to get a little uncomfortable with how fast it was going,’ the insider shared.
The Ballerina star ‘put the brakes on’ but ‘still likes [Cruise] a lot’ the source added, sharing the two have ‘undeniable chemistry’.
Though they are ‘done for now’ the two ‘have a connection’ and ‘they will see how things go in the future’.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for de Armas and Cruise for comment.
Their romance reportedly started after they ‘spent every day together’ while ‘training for the intense underwater sequences’ for their thriller Deeper, which is now on hold.
‘It started as a deep professional respect and then it ignited. Tom was completely captivated by Ana,’ the source went on.
Meanwhile de Armas ‘enjoyed his company’ and thought he was ‘fun to be with’.
She was also ‘attracted’ to the fact that he ‘supported her and everything she wanted to do’.
It comes following reports that de Armas has been ‘in a funk’ following the split and their film being put on hold.
‘Ana thought this year would be very different so she is disappointed,’ a source told the Daily Mail.
‘But she knows it will get better and is plugging on. And she is still friends with Tom. She is not crying at home,’ they added.
News of their split broke earlier this month.
A source close to the pair told The Sun: ‘Tom and Ana had a good time together but their time as a couple has run its course.
‘They are going to remain good friends but they aren’t dating anymore. They just realized they weren’t going to go the distance and that they are better off as mates.
‘The spark had gone between them but they still love each other’s company and they’ve both been really adult about it. She’s already been cast in his next film, so they will continue to work together.’
Tom and Ana were last publicly seen together months earlier in July as the pair went official with their budding romance.
At the time, the two stars were seen holding hands as they whisked themselves on a weekend getaway to Woodstock, Vermont.
They were spotted strolling through the scenic town together – after first sparking relationship speculation earlier this year in February.
Shortly before the Vermont trip, both stars were also seen attending the Oasis concert at Wembley Stadium.
