Noel Gallagher’s handwritten lyrics for Oasis’ hit Don’t Look Back In Anger have been flogged for over £20,000.
The singer’s words sold at auction for five times more than their valuation. Collectables company Propstore initially valued the handwritten relic for £4,000.
The lyrics were written down with a blue pen on a yellowed piece of crumpled paper and were sold for £20,160 last Friday after a bidding war broke out, according to What’s The Jam.
Seen as one of Oasis’ biggest songs, this piece of music history was part of the band’s beloved second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?
The hit was first released in 1995 and the album is widely considered one of the best of all time for the band after it won British Album of the Year in 1996.
Mark Hochman, Propstore’s Music Specialist, told the publication: ‘Propstore’s auction is a celebration of music history, with guitars that shaped the sound of a generation, handwritten lyrics that capture the first spark of legendary songs, and personal items that offer a glimpse into the lives of the world’s greatest music artists.’
And this is not the only huge cash investment made by fans as never-before-seen footage of Oasis performing in Glasgow on the night they were discovered has recently sold for more than £28,000 at auction.
Liam and Noel played one of their first-ever gigs at the city’s King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on May 31, 1993.
They were offered a record deal on the spot by Scots Creation Records boss Alan McGee, who was in the audience.
The performance was captured on a camcorder by Japanese student Ayako Misawa, who was living in Glasgow at the time.
A snippet from her recording featured in the 2016 Oasis documentary Supersonic, but the entire nine-minute video has never been publicly shared in full.
The footage, and its associated copyright, went up for sale at Propstore’s Music Memorabilia Live Auction and was given an estimate of £4,000 to £8,000.
But it sparked a competitive bidding war and fetched a final price of £28,350.
The lot includes the original Sony Handycam Video8 camcorder, cassette tape, battery pack, charger and Ms Misawa’s original concert ticket.
The lot’s description stated: ‘This rare videotape recording captured the Oasis gig that would change the band’s lives and spark the ’90s Britpop phenomenon.’
The Oasis tour began on July 4 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, to a sold-out audience.
It is scheduled to end on November 23 in São Paolo, Brazil.
The tour marks Oasis’s first live appearances since they split acrimoniously in 2009.
