Barbour X ARKET: the must-have coat collaboration to wear this winter

You’ve seen barn jackets in your local Waitrose, galoshes worn in the coffee shop queue and padded gilets hanging from the backs of office chairs. It’s clear, Countrycore is flooding city streets.

It makes sense then, that the British arbiter of waxed cotton jackets and countryside glamour, Barbour, has chosen to collaborate with ARKET this autumn.

ARKET X Barbour

You’re more likely to spot the well-loved Nordic high street brand, ARKET in a board meeting rather than on the farm, as it’s long been coveted for its sleek minimalist city-slicker aesthetic – see oversized blazers, sharp shirting and power boots.

But what it has in common with Barbour is that it also specialises in beautiful quality pieces and outerwear that is both timeless and ageless, yet practical.

Founded by John Barbour in 1894, this is the first of many brand partnerships the country outlet has secured to stay relevant to shoppers (see its collabs with Paul Smith and FARM Rio), whether they’re cleaning stables, storming around festivals, moseying around the Cotswolds, brunching or commuting to work.

And this ARKET capsule collaboration is the perfect cocktail of hinterland heritage with a metropolitan twist.

ARKET X Barbour

Think checked navy and forest green quilted coats with a signature Barbour corduroy collar; smart and sophisticated, yet cosy. Waxed coats in similarly earthy colourways which will be perfect for downpours and have hand warming pockets (also good for iPhone’s), detachable neck guards and subtle stealth wealth branding.

I have my eye on the reversible neckerchief – which doubles nicely as a headscarf if the heavens open (£75). As well as the short rain boots that will look great with dark denim or even woolly socks and a checked skirt (£84.95).

But perhaps the best bit about this collab is that it’s unisex, so you and your partner can share. And if you want to match your furry friend, there’s even a quilted dog coat, too.
