Katy Perry fan who proposed to her live on stage breaks his silence

A Katy Perry fan who proposed to her live on stage has revealed how he always told his daughters he’d make the singer his wife one day.

50-year-old Darren Trenchard, who is an engineer from Hampshire, got down on one knee and popped the question live on stage during Katy’s London concert at The O2 Arena on Monday.

Darren, who has been divorced for over a year, attended the show with his three daughters, Bethany, 16, Nicole, 22, and Sophie, also 22. 

They surprised him with a ticket to her Lifetimes world tour, and Darren knew it was his opportunity to meet the pop star, 40, and shoot his shot. 

Darren told the Daily Mail: ‘They bought me tickets as I was a big fan! I always joked that I was going to make Katy Perry my wife while they were growing up.

‘They got me on a dating app recently, and I joked I’ll ask Katy Perry out. 

‘On the day, I drew a big sign and folded it up in my pocket. I had no idea I’d be brought up on stage. When the spotlight came up, I ran to get to the stage on the off chance I make it to get a chance to go up.

‘It was a bit of a risky move, but I thought I’d go down on one knee. I felt a bit embarrassed and nervous when I was up there, but she was lovely and we even had a little chat off the microphone.

‘It was a great performance. She looked glamorous and great, and this made our night! Everyone’s talking about it.’

Katy turned Darren down amid her blossoming romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

She laughed: ‘I wish you’d asked me 48 hours ago.’

Katy added: ‘London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?

‘No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore.’

Offering advice to fellow fans, and proving he has no regrets, Darren added: ‘You only live once, never live life with regrets! Go for it!’

Katy was seen kissing and cuddling Justin, 53, on her 24-meter yacht, the Caravelle, off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, over the weekend.

Katy and hunky former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, 53, kicked off speculation about a budding romance in July when they were spotted having an intimate dinner at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal, just weeks after she announced her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom, 48.

All fell silent… at least until this weekend when the exclusive pictures obtained by the Daily Mail showed the couple packing on the PDA.

A witness who took the snaps last month said: ‘She pulled up her boat next to a small public whale-watching boat, then they started making out. 

‘I didn’t realise who she was with until I saw the tattoo on the guy’s arm and I immediately realized it was Justin Trudeau.’

Following the steamy moment, Justin’s ex-wife Sophie has shared a mysterious message about ‘letting go’ of love in a new social media post.

Television host Sophie, 50, spoke about the art of not holding on to love in a new Instagram post uploaded on Monday.

‘Sometimes we forget that nothing we love is ever meant to be kept,’ she said.

‘The people, the places, even the moments that once felt infinite, right?

‘Time asks us not to cling to them, but yet we do. I do because to hold on feels safer than to let go.’

Sophie continued: ‘But, love was never about possession, it was always about presence. The present moment and when we release what we cannot keep, we make space for the truth of connection, intimacy, the memory, for the lesson.

‘A single smile can echo across a lifetime, grief also lives there. I lost my dad in the past year, and I feel that with grief also comes grace.

‘So maybe, love’s deepest teaching is this: to stand open hearted in the face of impermanence. We honor what has been and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way.’

Sophie split from Justin in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage.

They have two sons, Xavier, 18, and Hadrien, 11, and a daughter, Ella-Grace, 16.

Katy, who has a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, split from Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom earlier this year.

She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 until 2012.
