While some races will have bigger prize pots, or attract a more dazzling crowd, there are few that can compare to the Grand National’s place in the public consciousness. Horses and trainers who have won the contest have become the stuff of legend, from Red Rum, to Tiger Roll, and Rachael Blackmore, who became the first female jockey aboard to win the historic race in 2021.

Not long to go now until we find out who might earn legendary status this afternoon…
